A Boy Named Emmanuel—God With Us Through Every Step

“I want to be able to walk tall, on twos and not on all fours,” Emmanuel said.

The Miracle Their Family Waited Ten Years For

For Emmanuel’s parents, that hopeful journey began long before their son was born. Before Emmanuel came into their lives, the couple endured the heartbreak of losing eight children through miscarriages. Every loss deepened their longing to become parents. So when Emmanuel was finally born ten years ago, they believed their miracle had arrived. But the joy of his birth was quickly mixed with confusion and grief. Emmanuel was born without lower limbs below the knee. “We asked ourselves what God was teaching us,” George recalled softly. “We had really prayed for our son, but when he came out, our theology was shaken.”

A Miracle Child’s Dream to Walk Tall

The emotional toll on the family was overwhelming. Depression crept into their home as they struggled to imagine what Emmanuel’s future would look like. “We thought living without limbs was the only thing Emmanuel would ever know,” George admitted. As Emmanuel grew older, his determination became evident. By age two, he had learned to move around by crawling. But watching their son drag himself across the floor broke his parents’ hearts. “The sight of Emmanuel crawling would make his mother cry,” George said. “I felt it too, and I promised myself I would look for help wherever I could find it.”

After Despair, Hope.

A local doctor informed the family about a grant from LimbKind Foundation, a nonprofit organization that helps children who need prosthetic limbs. Through a partnership with CURE International and LimbKind Foundation, children could receive free prosthetic assessments and surgeries at AIC CURE Children’s Hospital of Kenya.

A leap of faith.

They traveled for eight hours, uncertain of what they would find but holding tightly to hope. For George, everything changed the moment they arrived at the hospital. “When I saw the hospital and all the before-and-after pictures, I knew it was a work of God,” he said. “We trusted in Him, and He never let us down. That is why we named our son Emmanuel—God With Us.”

A kind Gesture from Partnerships

Today, thanks to donors’ generosity and the partnership between CURE Kenya and LimbKind Foundation, Emmanuel received prosthetic limbs during the April Limb Loss Month 2026! These have transformed his mobility and independence. Meanwhile, Emmanuel is already proving that his condition does not define him. The now energetic twelve-year-old loves swimming, plays wheelchair basketball and netball, and has discovered a passion for music and rap. His confidence shines brightly, even as he dreams of doing more. “I pray that I will be able to do more things without ridicule from anyone,” Emmanuel said with a hopeful smile.

Emmanuel’s Testimony

Emmanuel expressed his gratitude for the mentorship: “I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from a professional prosthetic user. Their guidance and support have been invaluable as I navigate this new journey with my prosthetic legs. I feel more confident and motivated to embrace this new chapter in my life.” The professional prosthetic user also shared their thoughts on the mentorship program: “It has been a privilege to mentor Emmanuel and other boys and girls like him as they learn to walk with their new prosthetic legs. I have been impressed by their determination and willingness to learn. It is incredibly rewarding to see their progress and to know that I have played a part in helping them regain their confidence in walking.”

We have witnessed remarkable progress in Emmanuel’s confidence since we last saw him. “I am going to get used to this and be confident like you!” he said as he held his mentor’s hand during his first upright walk. None of this would have been possible without your generous support. Thank you very much! For George, watching his son dream again feels like witnessing another miracle unfold—one step at a time.
