Resilience: Advancing CURE’s Mission Through Holistic Healing

Recently, 12 dedicated CURE Kenya staff members, including eight chaplains and three coworkers from various departments, successfully completed a Resilience Curriculum Training sponsored by Hope and Healing International. The training was designed to strengthen local capacity to deliver and sustain the program effectively, equipping staff with the knowledge and tools needed to help children with disabilities overcome adversity and stigma.

Empowering CURE Kenya Staff Through Resilience Training

At CURE Kenya, healing goes beyond surgery. Many of the children we serve have faced challenges not just physically, but emotionally and socially. The Resilience Program equips our team with practical tools to help these children build confidence, cultivate a positive self-image, and face each day with courage and resilience.

Child-Friendly Tools for Building Confidence

Through this training, the staff learned to use child-friendly teaching tools, such as coloring, and approaches that help children address challenges like neglect, rejection, and low self-esteem. By creating safe spaces for open sharing and encouragement, the program ensures that children receive holistic care, nurturing both their emotional well-being and mental development as they recover physically.

“The training impacted me positively and gave me a new understanding of what it truly means to be resilient. I learned the concept of ‘bouncing back,’ illustrated through a simple but powerful example of an egg and a ball. When you drop a raw egg, it breaks completely, just like how life can sometimes feel shattered when challenges come. But when you drop a ball, it always bounces back, and that’s the essence of resilience: the ability to rise again after falling. This lesson deeply inspired me. I will use this example to teach not only our patients and their caregivers but also the community I serve, to help them see that no matter what they go through, they can still stand again!” said Samuel, one of the staff members who was trained.

Partnership That Makes a Difference

This training is a perfect example of CURE’s mission to heal not only the physical but also the spiritual aspects of life. Through this training, the CURE Kenya staff were empowered to reach everyone holistically and advance CURE’s mission of healing the sick and proclaiming the Kingdom of God. We are grateful to partners like Hope and Healing International, who go above and beyond to join us in our mission to help kids heal holistically.
