Free From Clubfoot: Elvis’ Journey to Healing

When you meet Elvis, his bright smile quickly draws you in. But behind that smile is a journey filled with challenges, perseverance, and finally, transformation.

Growing Up With Clubfoot

Elvis was born with bilateral clubfoot, where both his feet curved in on themselves, making walking extremely painful. And growing up in a small, rural village in Kenya with his grandmother, Josephine, Elvis never received treatment. For years, Josephine did her best to care for her grandson, even as she struggled to provide him with the little she earned from their small farm.

Elvis did enroll in school, but it was a constant challenge for him to get there.  His feet often bled and swelled from walking the long journey barefoot. He wanted to wear shoes, but his feet the way they were, no shoes would fit him. Sometimes, the pain was so severe that he could not concentrate in class. Eventually, it all became too much and Elvis dropped out of school.

But despite the setback, Elvis remained determined. “I want to be an electrical engineer when I grow up!” he dreamed.

A Grandmother’s Faith and Love

Josephine is a devout Christian and one Sunday, God answered her prayers in an unexpected way. A teacher at her church who worked with a special needs school guided Josephine to seek help. That referral led them to the county government offices, where they learned about an upcoming CURE Kenya mobile clinic, one and a half hours away from their home.

For Josephine, it felt like a weight had been lifted off her chest. The mere presence of hope filled her lungs! With the support of their church community, she and Elvis traveled to the CURE mobile clinic. CURE doctors assessed Elvis, and later, he was admitted to AIC-CURE Children’s Hospital of Kenya in Kijabe for surgery to correct his clubfoot.

Healing at CURE Kenya

Elvis’ time at CURE was life-changing. Skilled surgeons treated his feet, nurses cared for him with kindness, and the spiritual team prayed and shared God’s Word with the family. Elvis experienced not only physical healing but also spiritual encouragement. For the first time in his life, he could stand tall and walk straight without pain!

Elvis’ life is transformed and he is ready to conquer the world.

A New Beginning

Today, Elvis is cured. He has returned to school plays with his friends without limitation, and is chasing his dream of becoming an engineer. Josephine is filled with gratitude: “I am so thankful to God and to CURE for healing my grandson. His life is different now.”

Children living with treatable disabilities deserve the chance to walk, run, and dream just like every other child, and Elvis’ life is proof of what can happen when God’s people come together to care for the marginalized, the ignored, and the left behind. While Elvis experienced all those things, they never defined him, and he is know walking tall into a future of his own making!

There are still thousands of children in Kenya waiting for the same miracle that Elvis experienced. You can be part of their story. Visit CURE Kenya’s donation page today and help bring life change to more children, just like Elvis!
