In 2019, CURE Kenya partnered with Bible League International, an organization whose mission is serving the under-resourced church with Bibles and training to transform lives worldwide through God’s Word, to learn more about evangelism. They provided us with devotional material to use throughout the year under their Project Philip ministry. The training material provided by Bible League International and our Spiritual Department in Kenya helped the hospital’s staff learn more about how to be kingdom multipliers for God and bring more people to Christ through His word.
Through this ministry, we worked on a book together as a staff titled Reaching Towards The Goal. This two-part book contains 20 lessons. The first part of the book has personal lessons that are addressed during individual devotion sessions. The second part of the book has discussion topics and questions to work through as a group. Before work every morning, the staff completed devotion sessions to discuss the topics and questions addressed in the book. This devotion time had a big impact on many of our staff. George, a physical therapist, said, “We have varying ages in our devotion group. We have some of the oldest and some of the youngest people in the hospital. Older people bring experience both in life and ministry whereas young people bring energy. The Bible Study has allowed each group to explore their strengths and as a result of this unity the study has helped us begin an ortho-rehab welfare group.” This group visits children’s homes and donates money to help families in need.
During Chapel devotion, we had a graduation ceremony to celebrate the completion of the year-long study. Everyone who finished reading the devotional material was eligible to receive a certificate and a Bible. Mr. Felix from Bible League International shared from Romans 12:1-8 before awarding CURE Kenya staff with Bibles and certificates.
Executive Director, Abed Kilonzi, encouraged everyone when he spoke about the importance of being prepared for the work God has called us to do and explained that “we exist to reach out to people who are broken.” He also spoke about putting on the armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-18. To close out the ceremony, Abed shared Joshua 1:8, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” We are always looking for ways to grow in our technical skills and in our faith to heal our patients physically and spiritually. We are grateful for the opportunity to grow in faith, as a team, and to serve God through the patients that come to CURE Kenya.

More than just providing life-changing surgeries, CURE cares for the emotional and spiritual needs of all our patients.
